Four Sanitation Workers Killed by Kerala Express While Cleaning Tracks
Kochi: In a tragic accident near Shoranur Railway Station in Kerala’s Palakkad district, four sanitary workers, including two women, lost their lives after being struck by the Thiruvananthapuram-bound Kerala Express on Saturday evening. The workers had been assigned to clear debris along the railway tracks near the Shoranur bridge, situated just meters from the station, when the incident occurred.
According to officials, the Kerala Express was en route from Delhi to Kerala when it ran over the workers. Due to the collision’s severe impact, the victims were thrown from the tracks. Police reported that three of the bodies were recovered at the scene, while efforts continue to locate the fourth victim, who may have fallen into the nearby Bharathapuzha River.
The workers, who hailed from Tamil Nadu, were employed on a contract basis by the Railways to handle sanitation duties along the tracks. Initial reports suggest the workers may not have been aware of the approaching train. However, Railway Police are conducting further investigations to determine the precise circumstances that led to the accident.
